Guide to YouTube Content ID & Dispute System

#Public Article

If you’re an AirXone member and looking to remove a claim on your own YouTube channel, read this article instead.

This article is intended for users who have obtained a license from our creators, received a claim from AirXone, and want to remove the claim from their videos.

First, the basics: What is Content ID? What is a claim?

Content ID is a digital fingerprinting system that content creators and labels use to easily identify and manage their copyrighted content on YouTube. Every video uploaded to YouTube is automatically compared against audio and video files registered in the Content ID database to detect any matches.

When a match is found, a copyright notice (a claim) is applied to the video, and the original content owner can choose to monetize or block the matched video.

This system is commonly used to collect revenue from piracy and third-party uses, track content usage, protect original content from being used without permission, uphold the rights of the owners, and manage copyright infringements effectively.

Note: A copyright claim notice does not mean that copyrights have been infringed, and this shouldn’t be confused with a YouTube “copyright strike”. It’s simply a notice to advise that YouTube has detected Content ID registered content within the video.
